At the August 17 Finance Committee meeting, Fire Chief Brian Nardelli and Fire Department electrician James Donovan—whose team oversees all city traffic signals—announced a $1.24 million grant from MassDOT(opens in new tab) for critical traffic upgrades on Oak Street. The project covers seven intersections, with a customized scope of work for each location. Improvements will feature traffic signal equipment replacements, pedestrian traffic signal installations, video vehicle detection, emergency pre-emptive systems, signal timing modifications, and new pedestrian curb ramps.

Paired with the Oak Street repavement project, one of Brockton’s most heavily traveled corridors is set to become state-of-the-art.
